SNAKE COUNTRY

I've seen the snake's head lunge
From behind your hooded eyes
And I have heard the hiss
Of your cold hearted lies.
I've worked slippery decades
As your slave in servants' guise
And never have you thanked me
Or whispered me a prize.
I bought your education -
The most dismal you could devise;
I borrowed to pay your taxes
And watched them super size.
Knowing all that I've come to know
I forsake the false trade's clearing skies
And fake and fade while febrile fate
Sends storms that finally make me wise.
